Some may say Bill Harrop is full of hot air but he also puts his money where his mouth is.

"We have been chided from time to time for underselling ourselves by guests who are often very pleasantly surprised when they actually experience the quality of our personalised service and top class facilities. Having invested heavily in our own base of operations, thus, relying on no one but ourselves, we can ensure that everything from technical to toilet facilities is flawless. By running our own Catering department we have been able to manage and control everything from food purchasing and preparation to presentation on the patio overlooking spacious gardens and the majestic Magaliesberg Mountains.

We are now planning to complete our new Flight Pavilion that will not only give guests a very special welcome, but also a warm one in winter. This will incorporate a restaurant with top class kitchen facilities and be available for corporate functions and weddings."

Bill Harrop's confidence in the South African Tourism Industry certainly paid off, on his previous investment of R1.5 million putting another "jumbo 18 passenger balloon into service. This increased Bill Harrop's "Original" Balloon Safaris fleet capacity to a maximum of 71 passengers in one flight, or 142 on a large corporate "double-hop.

On a busy day the spectacle of five or six balloons flying at once is glorious to behold, but even when entertaining 40 or 50 passengers in a morning Bill is keen to ensure the "original" personal and exclusive touch is not lost. With the advent of the new pavilion and some innovative planning and separate breakfast table facilities we are always able to ensure that "smaller" parties are not overwhelmed by large corporate groups, and that the latter have facilities for private meetings and presentations.

Established in 1981 when they were awarded the first Non-Scheduled Airline Licence ever granted for Hot Air Balloons, Bill Harrop's "Original" Balloon Safaris is South Africa's largest and most experienced operator. Their main, and most popular trips are scenic balloon flights in the Magalies River Valley (Gauteng and Northern Province) and they also offer Game Viewing Balloon Safaris at Mabula Private Game Reserve (Limpopo Province). Select Ballooning Lodge packages are also available for guests wishing to dine and overnight at a convenient, top class lodge prior to enjoying a Balloon Safari the following morning.
